The Village Workshop team (pictured in the video) have taken down the crumbling, damp kitchen, toilet and boilerhouse extension at the back of Patrick Old School largely built on the old school wall, and the replacement extension is now up to roof level. Every stone from the old school wall has been reclaimed and will be rebuilt as the outer wall of the new dry and draft proof extension.
This is a project for the descendants of Knockaloe Internment Camp, but also for the village community too - the fabulous new bright community area (which will allow two of the old classrooms to become permanent exhibition space) is in the heart of the new extension and we are looking forward to the day that the Patrick "Coffee stop" and the Patrick Youth Club can move their meetings back in, along with the new Friday Soup Stop, not to mention the Burns Night and Harvest Suppers in the main hall which will double up as movable Knockaloe Visitors' Centre space.
